Not a good day for working on the boat, went into to town to try and get a document notarised but the combination of language difficulties and queues defeated me for the time being. Bought another zinc anode to balance the one I acquired in San Julian at a much cheaper price (free) than this one (expensive), also bought another gallon of antifouling. Back on board I had a go at repairing the Watch Commander (glorified egg timer) with some success. We will see how long it lasts this time. Unfortunately this invaluable little tool for single and short handed sailors does not tolerate moisture at all well. The heater is going but the wind blows it out every now and again, what a nuisance. I tried changing chimneys to one with a different Charlie Noble* but it seems to have made no difference. Another little challenge to think about, making the heater more wind resistant. All is well. Bob Cat: Definitely an indoor sort of day - no tuna …. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
*Charlie Noble is the smoke stack on a ship's galley.Around 1850 A.D., a British merchant service captain, Charles Noble, upon discovering that the stack of his ship's galley was made of copper, ordered that it be kept bright. Then onwards, the ship's crew then started referring to the galley smokestack as the "Charlie Noble". (Bloody officers!) As for the Watch Commander, just tested it again and it’s still playing up. Bother! |
