Position: 42 18.81 S 073 15.88 WAt anchor Caleta Mechunque Wind: Northwest F3-4 gentle to moderate breeze Weather: mostly cloudy, occasional drizzle, mild Day’s Run 34 nm The wind had at last backed a little into the west this morning and the patches of sunshine encouraged me to slip the mooring and get underway again after our three day stop in Isla Quehui. We had a pleasant sail covering 34 miles and arrived to anchor off an interesting little village a good two hours before sunset, allowing sufficient time for me to row ashore and have a brief look around. The village of Mechuque on the island of the same name is a little bigger then Quehui, where we have just come from, it even sports a couple of restaurants, or so some signs outside a couple of house indicate. The most promising closes at 5.30 p.m. so not exactly an exciting night spot. Maybe I will investigate further tomorrow. A meal ashore in such a small place could be an interesting experience. Many of the houses line the foreshore and are on stilts as the tidal range hereabouts is six meters, something one must take into account when coming to anchor, namely to allow enough depth for the tide to go out without ending up high and dry - very embarrassing. My plan is to spend tomorrow here exploring a little more, there is a small museum I would like to check out, and then Friday we will continue on our way. If the weather looks suitable I hope to make for Puerto Montt where I must get stuck into giving Sylph a much needed minor refit. All is well. Bob Cat: I think, dear reader, you are starting to get the measure of how I judge a day - not too much movement, some warmth, a bit of tuna, and plenty of sleep. Today has proven adequate so far, it is not so cold as it has been even without the heater, our abode leaned over quite a bit for a while but at least did not throw me around and has now come to rest. No tuna yet, I live in hope but also in the moment, and now the moment is ripe for a … zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. |
