After enjoying a peaceful sleep in this morning, arising at the very civilised hour of 9.30 I partook of a leisurely breakfast on deck and looked out to sea for sign of some wind. In the anchorage it was almost dead calm, but there is a bit of a wind shadow in the anchorage (which is what makes it such a good anchorage) and it is my impression that it needs to be blowing half a gale before any significant breeze is felt here. I went ashore to make a phone call and to fetch a little water, then back on board looked around some more. Eventually I decided to leave. I hoisted the mainsail with the intention of sailing from anchor, and weighed. But once the anchor was home it was obvious we were not going to sail anywhere. I reluctantly started the diesel which started reluctantly, and motored clear of the in shadow of Cabo Raso. I was relieved to find a nice light breeze which has freshened very slightly, a delightful beam reach driving us along at a comfortable 5 knots - from the relaxation point of view, about as good as it gets.
I had thoughts of stopping at Sines, the birth place of Vasco de Gama but at this rate we will pass it late this evening, so if the breeze holds we will continue overnight to Cape St Vincent and beyond.
