A great day for a sail, sun shining, nice fresh breeze on the beam, one reef
in the mainsail, a bit of a sea running but pleasant, the odd splash over
the rail, and the sea is a nice deep blue green instead of the usual
monotonous grey it has been for the majority of this passage.. Just over 100
miles run over the last 24 hours with 140 miles to go to approaches to
Galway Bay. At this stage I am continuing on in this direction, keeping my
options open, I will re-assess this afternoon and decide whether to press on
or bear away for Fastnet Rock and Cork.
It's the Irish Festival in Annapolis on the 21st so we need to be in an
Irish pub to celebrate by then. Now isn't it a strange thing I can go
anywhere in this whole wide world and find an Irish Pub, back in Annapolis I
recommend the Galway Bay, I think there are more Irish Pubs in Annapolis
then in Ireland, (only a minor exaggeration). But what are my chances of
finding an Aussie Pub in Ireland? Not high I'd say. Now here's a business
opportunity, pubs with the thermostat right up simulating about 45 degrees
in the shade, someone in stubbies and singlet running a chook raffle. I
volunteer my brother Mark, he could be the mascot, like Ronald McDonald is
to the golden arches.
Drifted around a bit last night in light airs, moderate swell, slatting
sails, but at 2 this morning the breeze freshened and is now near perfect.
Unfortunately perfection is a precarious state, difficult to maintain, that
perhaps is why it is perfect, the wind will continue to strengthen tonight,
we shall see what young Dawn's rose-red fingers bring tomorrow.
All is well.
Bob Cat:
The last 24 hours have been quite satisfactory - apart from the food of
course. I believe we have almost crossed the North Atlantic and do you think
we could have enticed one little fish from this vast ocean into our little
boat and more importantly into my digestive system. No, just hard tack and
gruel! All very Dickensian. But not one to complian, so back to it ...
Zzzzzz.
"Will anyone dare to tell me that business is more entertaining than fooling
around among boats? He must have never seen a boat, or never seen an office,
who says so . " Robert Louis Stevenson
