At Last

Course: East Speed: 5.5 knots
Wind: North nor'west, fresh to strong
Weather: Sun and cloud. Sea: moderate to rough
Day's Run: 125 miles
At last, the wind is abaft the beam, just. Yesterday afternoon was uneventful, come sunset we were under full sail, sailing slightly free of closed hauled with the sheets cracked a smidgeon. At midnight the wind started to increase dramatically so I went straight to two reefs in the main and 60% jib. By 2.30 this morning I had dropped the mainsail as well, since then we have been sailing with 50% jib with the wind mostly on the beam. Two hours ago the wind had backed sufficiently to allow me to come off the wind a little more so I can now say the wind is abaft the beam. Hopefully it will move further in that direction.
If we have a reasonable run of things from here I hope we will be in Ireland in 8 to 9 days. We better make it either 8 or 10 days, 9days would be a Suday and Customs will charge us overtime to clear in.

We have been leaning to one side a lot lately, which is fine, we are leaning the right way for sleeping. Except of course when skipper Bob wants the bunk as well, we both want the inside position against the cushions and not close to the edge. The motion has improved quite a bit over the last few hours, and its become quieter, and I have the bunk to myself, time to catch up on some quality sleep, maybe not A1 quality, we will put it in category B for now, but much better than the last few days, I would have to score those at an F. This is all quite complicated, something we professional sleepers would only understand. Zzzzzzz.
