The sail overnight was indeed very pleasant, mostly a beam reach down the west coast of Fleurieu Peninsula with a light easterly keeping the sails full and the seas flat, and Sylph gurgling along at a steady three to four knots. At about 10 pm as we were approaching Cape Jervis and Investigator Strait the wind started to back around to the north and the seas became a little lumpier. I poled the jib out to port now that the wind was behind us and we continued steadily on for a few more hours until the wind backed further into the north-west which required a gybe and for the whisker pole to be lowered. The breeze continued fair however and come sunrise we were approaching Kingscote Harbour. As we rounded the Spit (a sand bar to the north and east of Kingscote which creates the small harbour) we tightened sheets and close reached into the anchorage. There are three other yachts here, including a beautiful timber ketch which I chose as my anchoring mark. I furled the jib as we passed close under her stern then rounded up into the wind on her shoreward side, as the way came off I handed the mainsail and let go the anchor.

Now we await Mark's arrival, I expect he should be here late this afternoon.

It is nice to be sailing.
