Friday morning we rented a car and took off exploring the Island.
Our first goal was the old Cedar trees high up on a montain.

We walked a track that took us to lot's of these enourmous trees. The oldest we saw was 2600 years old. Fantastic place, no wonder it's a world heritage. The terrain was very much up and dom so after a couple of hours of walking we decided we needed a good soak to relax our muscles.
Off we went to look for an Onsen (hot spring). On the way down the mountain again there was suddenly Monkeys on the road! Beautiful long haired grey Monkeys. They are called Yaku Monkeys. We took photos and continued the search for a nice Onsen.
We found one called Hirauchi kaichu onsen. A natural hot water spring next to the sea. At high water it sometimes gets under water. With some directions from an old man in one of the pools we were soon soaking in the hot water. There were 3 pools with different temperatures.
We continued our trip around the island with a visit to Ohko Waterfall, 88 m.
After the waterfall we entered the Seibu-rindo Forest Path. A single lane road that leads through a nice forest. Suddenly we were surrounded by Yaku monkeys and Yaku deers.
Both are indigenous to the island. When we stopped the car all the monkeys surrounded us. Lots of photos were taken before we continued with the last stop for the day at a lighthouse.
When we, after a full day of exploring finally got back to Miyanoura it was already getting dark. We went straight to a restaurant for dinner.
A good day on a beautiful island was over.
All is well,
Lars, Karl and Anna.
