Rossel Island, Tryon Bay.
Sunday 17th of May, 12.30h
Friday morning we were up early to celebrate Thomas 52nd Birthday.
After a visit to the village to look at some necklaces we took off for Rossel
island. I realized soon that the wind was to strong and from the wrong direction
to make Rossel before dark.
We ended up anchoring on the other side of Nimoa Island. We had a good
snorkling tour on the reef. In the afternoon we had a nice Birthday cake the
girls had baked.
Saturday morning we left early to be able to reach Rossel island before
evening. It got a bit tricky when we passed out through the reef. A strong
6 knot current pushed us out, suddenly there was only 4 meters of water and at
the same time Steve gets a fish on the line. It all sorted it self out and we
passed through the standing waves and landed a nice Barracuda. The weather
turned nasty after a while with heavy rain squalls and up to 40 knots of wind on
the nose. We had to motorsail all the way to make it with light to spare.
Barracuda for dinner.
Sunday the weather is still rainy and windy. We visited the Village and the
School. The school have 325 pupils from around the Island. We were guided around
by Mary the wife of the Head Master.
All is well,
