Uepi Island
Friday the 5th of june

Thursday morning we went to visit “John Wayne” in his house and he started withshoving us his and his sona beautiful carvings. Ewa could not resist buying one. He continued to tell us lots of stories from the old times. He shoved us a picture of his grandfather with his head hunting war outfit on. The photo was taken 1917 less than 100 years ago. It was around this time that they got christened and stopped their raiding of other tribes. They are now all 7th Day Adventists. We had decided to move up to Uepi Island. There should be a resort where we hoped to get hold of a pair of flippers or two since ours went missing. The going in the lagoon was very slow so we went out through an opening in the reef and traveled much faster in the open waters outside. The pass into the lagoon again turned out to be more difficult than anticipated. The reef opening shoving on my charts turned out to be completely closed by coral. While searching for a solution I came across a Google Earth picture of this area. That shoved a deep passage next to Uepi Island. This passage was not on any of my 3 different electronic charts. Problem solved we anchored outside the resort and went for a visit. It was a nice place run by an Australian family. They did not have any guests when we arrived but the next day there was 25 new guests arriving. Their speciality was diving and snorkeling.
Friday we spent mostly drift snorkeling in the pass through the reef. This was wonderful snorkeling just gliding along the side of the reef full of fishes. We saw several black tipped and white tipped reef sharks. In the evening Ewa cooked us a lovely lamb steak with roasted vegetables.

All is well,
Lars and crew.
