Nattvakter? Ja det har vi haft. "The boys will take the nightshift" konstaterade Bob resolut under gårdagens middag och så blev det.

Bob sammanfattade det hela "this not always beneficial to fish for 400 pound fishes with a 200 pound setting" Ingen av oss andra har riktigt förstått vad han menar med det.

In these conditions it's another seventy-three hours to Sao Vicente the most north westerly of the group, though if we get delayed we may have to alter course to the east to make landfall at Illa de Boa Vista and shorter route to Illa de Santiago and the airport at Praia.

Catastrophe! The crew heads have blocked. Beers all round for those not sleeping whilst the problem is investigated. It appears the blockage is beyond changeover valve that switches between the holding tank and the direct sea discharge, so at least it can be brought back into use until we reach port. A great "relief" to all.

Most of the day is spent reading and sunbathing and as the winds picks up we're surfing along averaging 8.5 kts speed over ground, actual speed is several knots higher but doesn't account for any currents which be affecting our progress.

It's pretty hot and the wind is warmer now we're getting further south.

I decide to have shower before it becomes a popular demand. Don't try this at home, but soap in one hand the shower head in the other adopt the kneeling position. As the boat is rolling through 40 degrees there no chance of standing up and yes we do have a bath on this yacht, there's posh. Once soap has been applied it serves to lubricate the bottom of the bath. This increases your acceleration from one end to the other, and since you hands are full, your at great risk of some damage to softer parts of the anatomy. Now you know why the most popular way of showering is to use the one on the stern with the lesser risk of being lost overboard instead!

Frederick decides to do a little body surfing and secured to a rope launches himself off the stern and into our wake, most impressive and not for the feint hearted.

Most have retired to their bunks. I rise before six ready for happy hour when Lars advises he's put all the clock's back and hour. Happy hour is at 5pm today, and another fine dinner, chicken curry is served the hour earlier while it's still light.

12112010 Friday Day 25

A better sleep, the bilges have been emptied and this stopped the pump running and it's siphon break valve whistling after each run. With the new time, dawn is breaking when I come on watch at 0600. Lars is up at 0700 and we coffee and breakfast early.

We've made good progress during the night the wind drops a few knots when the sun sets and the seas calm and conversely in the morning. We are now over half way and the GRIB downloaded last night shows this weather will remain pretty constant with winds from a northern high producing a 14 to 20kt north easterly, perfect.

The toilet is leaking. As the outlet is on the windward side it's taking the full buffeting of the seas which is being forced into pipe and coming through the flap valves meant to prevent this. Major engineering is now and necessity, Lars and Pim have the whole of the pump unit stripped down have replacing the faulty valves and worn seals.
