Title: Westpoint Island

Pos 51:21.01S 60:40.98W

We anchor in Westpoint Cove next to a bright yellow fishing boat and opposite the settlement. Going ashore we are met by Mike who invites us in for smoko but Lars wants to climb the mountain one of the highest in the Falklands at 369 metres so its agreed to call on the way back.

Needless to say it's another foolish venture I,ve been dragged into and while Thomas wisely stayed aboard the three of us trudge onward and upward. Peter is sunbathing at the top when we arrive trying to make a point perhaps? We are rewarded with spectacular views over the islands and the cliffs as this side the ends in a shear drop into the sea.

On the way back we come across three graves reputed to be of old Sealer who were buried there. Suitably knackered we return to the Farmstead where Jeanette, Mike's wife has laid a on a great spread of cakes and scones. Along with Bob, a friend of their's who has been visiting the Islands population has now risen to three!

Westpoint Island covers 2,700 acres and is home to a thousand sheep, hundreds of Upland Geese, Caracara (Eagles), Turkey Vultures and much more wildlife

All three of them come aboard for drinks which left the island uninhabited! as we reciprocated for their hospitality, especially as we came back bearing a bagfull of cookies for which Thomas (Cookie Man) was suitable grateful. Jeanette had also advised Peter on how to make jam of our remaining rhubarb so now we await the result.
