Spare parts and couriers

I’m starting to get quite a long time experience with spare parts and couriers. In general it works descent in Europe (although rural areas have problems) but delivering spare parts in the whole Caribbean region through couriers is almost impossible.

Receiving vital parts for our Capitano steering cylinder to Antigua by USPS I finally needed to go to the main post office with a local contact to get our parts out (and to a high cost naturally). It took a week.

Asking Gulf Coast Filters in the US to deliver oil polish filters to Varadero Marina in Aruba took around two months with the seller attempting different couriers.

Nowadays we import all spares also overseas to my home in Sweden. Also that has been a nuisance several times with FedEx lying , stating “your goods have been delivered” which was NOT consistent with reality. Threatening with ECC solved the problem and next time was UPS delivering our low pressure pump from US to Sweden. They also stated “package delivered” and sent a photo as “evidence of delivery” (see enclosed photo from UPS as well as my own photo with a message to UPS on the red door).

Confronted with false picture and threatened with ECC they finally delivered the pump. What I understand from insiders , the courier companies reluctantly deliver to rural areas since it’s costly.

Now we have ordered a refurbished Raymarine E-120MFD from Max Marine in Florida delivered by FedEx express for 140Usd to Providence in Turks&Caicos.

According to their robots the package has passed customs and is here in their local office. It will be delivered before 6pm tomorrow to South Bank Marina. If this will be consistent with reality tomorrow, I believe when I see it.

Media have been writing some articles about dishonest courier companies (see pic) so we cannot be alone having problems paying loads of money for lies and bad service. Why are not more people complaining ?
