Coming in from the sea the first thing you see from Borgholm is the Borgholm castle. This place has (as usual in human history), seen a lot of blood and suffering. Being built in the middle of the 13th century the castle was conquered by the Danish and reconquered by the Swedes countless of times during history.1806 it was badly damaged by a severe fire.
Today the castle is used for theatre and concerts (the most famous probably from Roxette 1989).
We made landfall in darkness at 06.00 after retreiving the paravanes in calm waters.
This is mainly a summercity and with an empty guestharbour this time of the year. The royal family has their summerhouse just outside the city (Solliden) and the walk there goes through an old beautiful forrest.
