At 18.15 local ships time we saw Welangilala, the
first Fijiisland visible when approaching the Lau islandgroup from
northeast.Still being daylight when we saw the island,it was completely dark
when passing the island and it´s reefs to port. The lighthouse not working(quite
common in these waters),it had a radiobeacon clearly visible on our radar, and
with radarsurveillance,we could pass at a safe distance of 2.8Nm.We are now
heading for Savu Savu(110Nm further west)one of four ports to clear in to
Fijiland.
Sometime tonight we will pass longitude 180W,and
enter the eastern hemisphere of the earth being some of the first human beings
to start September 23.
