After some days of vicious weather in the region of Bay of Naples it was time to let the ropes away and head south for the worldrenowned Amalficoast (40Nm). The route will take you through the strait of Bocca Piccola with Punta Campanella to port and worldfamous Capri to starboard.
Today Capri is an island very much for the jetset and prices accordingly insane. The island though (that was owned by emperor Augustus who built a palace here) is beautiful viewed from the sea and on the mountain southeast of the main settlement emperor Tiberius had his residence.
Tiberius was an adopted son of emperor Augustus happily married for love in his first marriage and a successful military commander in the Roman campaigns in todays Germany. Augustus broke his marriage though and forced him to marry his daughter Julia. At the time of Augustus death Tiberius was the chosen successor and was initially a scilful administrator of the Roman empire.
People around him though described him as the "saddest of men" and he later resigned to his palace in Capri and let his prefects run the empire. On the island he held parties that gave him a bad reputation and he was all but liked by the islanders.
Viewing Capri from the sea the palace of Tiberius can be seen partly and that place is a well renowned museum today.
