We also checked for vibrations in the tunnel of the shaft where the Cutlass bearings are located (or Cutless) as well as the the whole steering machinery without any odd findings.
With increasing wind and seaway sounds increased. My first fear was bad/damaged Cutlass bearings with the risk of shaft seal leakage as well as machinery shutdown. We had a briefing together Mercedes and me about the worst case scenario of an incapacitated engine. That would mean heaving to on our parachuteanchor (which we took out and went through) while trying to arrange towing in international waters . With current circumstances there was NO threat to other than the propulsion of the boat.
To get better rest off watch I preferred to sleep in the saloon
