This time of the year in the Arctic the sun hardly gets above the horizon and light from the sun is only visible sometime between 10 and 13. On the other hand the few hours of light are magic. It´s a kind of light you don´t see elsewhere. If the moon also shines on the snowdressed mountains,then the better.
Dora Mac is well made for being under way in darkness. All cabins are equipped with cabinlights for crewchange in darkness,navigational displays equipped with light for nighttime use,and all crew use headlights with redlight not to disturb nightvision.
Moreover there´s a binocular onboard equipped with IR vision which sometimes comes out very handy.
