With it´s antenna in the mainmast this is our main
VHF.Being able to receive AIS data and equipped with DSC this unit was installed
on Fiji 2010.The aim was to connect to GPS and over NMEA to the laptop for AIS
presentation.For "lack of energy "reasons this has not been done yet,but the
unit receives AIS data as expected(it´s presented on the VHF screen) and once
programmed with the ships MMSI number the DSC seems to be working(obviously
without GPS position until NMEA connected).
DSC seems to be well developed in Europe but rarely
found on yachts overseas,especially in the South
Pacific.
