Being used to a Windpilot windvane on our Scandinavian doubleender in the eighties, sailing with Monitor has been a pure pleasure.Acting directly on the helm,it´s accuracy is very convincing. The harder the wind the better accuracy, and when downwindsailing from Colombia to San Blas in 35-40 knots of wind we soon realized that Monitor did a better job than the helmsman.
Apart from braking the safetytube on a downwindsurf when crossing the Pacific Ocean(we probably hit something in which case the safetytube is meant to brake),we never had any problems. Our contacts with Scanmar in California concerning spareparts(safetytube)has been very straightforward and their delivery to the Marquesas, very efficient. On the downside is the price, but most cruisers equipped with the Monitor think its worth it,and so do we.
Highly recomended !
