When the herring appear in the fiords fishing up here is intense.Work is 24/7 during this period and since days are short most work onboard the trawlers is done in darkness. Heading back to Skjervöy port we passed several trawlers fishing with strong decklights to illuminate deckarea for the fishermen.
Skjervöy is the centre for fishing up here and as such a very busy port. It was the only village in this region not burned by the Germans during WW-II and having all infrastructure intact after the war,Skjervöy became a prosperous commune which continues today.
