Almost 2years ago when on passage east into the Mediterranean (passing south of Ibiza/Formentera) bound for Palma de Mallorco, I promised Merecedes we would go to Formentera and Ibiza on our way west out of the Med.
Since none of us had any desire to go to Mallorca (we like Soller but in low season) we now weighed anchor bound for Formentera(175Nm).
Passing east of Mallorca circumstances were good allthough we spent hours to stay out of way for a ship with reduced manouver capacity.
It was a Spanish oceanographic research vessel on an active mission (probably with remote controlled submarines in action) and allthough catching up on us we were contacted on VHF 16 and asked to stay away. Easier said than done it took us hours before they were on a safe distance in the moonlit horizon.
Just before sunset wind and seaway increased from northeast and we launched the paravanes.
In the afternoon we came into leeward of the eastern peninsula of Formentera and made landfall in Cala Sahona just before sunset.
Well protected from current wind, good holding on sand, crystal clear water, but very crowded.
