When the gale arrived winds and seas were much worse than anticipated with winds gusting 50kts.
Two boats were washed up ashore and only one of them was possible to save. Searescue helicopters and boats were constantly engaged in different searescue operations. This is when a 28ft sailboat with French crew arrived from crossing the English Channel (from Isle of Man).
Many of us helped them to tie up alongside and when Mercedes saw them she filled up a big bowl of our hot pasta Bolognese which was delivered to the frozen, hungry and exhausted crew of three.
It was much appreciated and we were later invited for cheese and a glass of wine and had a delightful evening with the skipper Pierre, his friend Emanuel and  nephew Francois.
