Forecast was 14kts from NW with 0,8mtr waves but reality became 28-30kts of wind with up to 1,5mtr waves.
In the end we had to launch the paravanes and due to headwinds on the beam we were slowed down to 5kts giving us landfall in darkness with launched paravanes.
The bay of Kalotyri though on the NW part of the island was completely calm with flat waters and allthough some other yachts in the bay we found a good spot for anchoring.
We stayed in this beautiful bay four days testing our new diveequipment, renting a car visiting a beautiful Chora as well as the Holy Monastery of virgin Mary/Chozoviotissa.
While diving we checked the anchor and how it only partly dug down in the carpet of seagrass (posidonia).
That´s one problem dropping anchor in darkness and allthough using the fishfinder eyeballnavigation in daylight is better finding pure sandspots.Posidonia is important for carbondioxidestorage (15times better than rainforrest in Amazonas)so avoiding to drop your anchor on seagrass also has an ecological perspective.
Amorgos like Astepalea is off the beaten track and in this way more genuine than it´s more famous neighbours like Naxos and Paros and Mykonos.
Like they told us in the hotel by Pavlos beach- "Amorgos is chill,Mykonos is another world"
