Coming in to Lisbon on our way to the Caribbean in the early eighties we were just slightly over 20 years old.
Moored in Doca de Belem, Cais de Sodrè was the natural area for partying. In those days this was a red light district and a gathering place for sailors from all over the world. Copenhagen bar used to be popular among Danish sailors and therefore the name. Together with compatriots from two other Swedish boats this bar became central for Scandinavian partying the short time we were there.
Now more than thirty years later it was a big surprise it was still there. Not looking very much to the world, we learned that it is still the same family being owners of this bar.
Cais de Sodrè is no longer a red light district but one of the most popular areas for nightlife. We went further to Bairro Alto which is the other popular night life area. Loaded with small bars it was nice to have a beer meeting people from all over the world.
