Being able to prepare Dora Mac for the season allthough in quarantine, among other things the liferaft needed repacking/certification(every third year).
Last time was in Spain to a cost of around 300Euros.
After contact with Plastimo representative in Norway the cost for repack/certification would be over 1200Euros !!
The only sensible solution to this was to buy a new liferaft in Sweden for less than costs of repacking in Norway (Seapro 6 pers offshore, French liferaft)and pack it into the car driving to Norway.
The cost for discarding the liferaft in Norway is 150Euros or you do it yourself and bring it to a recycling station. Having asked around no one seems interested neither in an uncertified liferaft for free.
Subsequently, yesterday I launched the liferaft and stabbed it´s pontoons with a knife packing it for discarding.
Being a very rich country labour is expensive in Norway. Subsequently often is it cheaper to throw away/buy new instead of repairing. Moreover prices in the "safety industry" are skyhigh and increasing. In the name of safety, rules and regulations are strict, prices high, and very difficult to argue against.
For the mariner this is of course an issue but above all-what a waste for the environment !
