The southcoast is where the majority of hotels and beachlife is located. One major reason for this are the different microclimates on both Tenerife and Gran Canaria with much more hours of sun and warmer on the southcoasts. One major reason for going here was to rent a car and drive over Tenerife to reach as far possible to Teide (the highest mountain of the Canaries with 3.700mtrs) as well as visiting the more lush and green north part of the island.
Taking a walk in the evening along San Miguel waterside to Los Abrigos we passed loads of hotels, many of them in "Mickey Mouse" design.
Los Guanches are the indigenous people who, like so many other minorities today, try to keep their traditions here represented by dancing. The Guanches have been found to emanate from North African tribes (The Berber people) proven by DNA technology 2017 and probably inhabited the larger islands the millenium after Christ.
