Our time in Mindelo has reached an end. We never anticipated to spend so much time here but the repairs performed were all necessary.
Moreover the wind has been very strong for weeks and not an optimal time to leave allthough it´s mainly the area around the Cape Verde islands which has been affected (normal between January to March). From our passage planning and routening the optimal day to leave seems to be March 28 but we wanted to explore some other anchorages as well before leaving
After topping up 1.000ltr diesel (1,24Eu/ltr) coming out to sea we encountered 30-35kts of wind and breaking seas making paravanes necessary. Heading for Baia de Sao Pedro on the southcoast of the island we hoped for some protection with reduced tradewinds as well as watching all turtles this bay is famous for. Once heading up the bay winds were gusting up to 40kts and seemed to be funneling between the mountains. We dropped anchor at 8m and let 65m of chain out giving us a good hold but we were not expecting a peaceful night. Setting anchor alarm all went fine but wind gusts up to 40kts continued being hard on our anchor tackle which made us decide to change anchorage the next day.
