Already in the morning we were approached by fishermen who sold us lobsters. During our days at anchor we saw them all time free diving down to empty their lobster traps placed on the bottom and with the wild AND GREEN beach full of vegetation this is a much more beautiful island than Aruba where only cactus grow.

Moreover it´s more genuine Caribbean not at all as commercialised as Aruba which is basically made for American tourists.

The only backside is the charter fleet packing their boats with tourists for day trips to the area. The price is around 150-200Usd for the trip making us realise how priviliged we are.

We continuously tried to reach the armada on Vhf but without success.

Mercedes was invited to a Spanish cruiser association some years ago based on her contribution to world sailing and contacted one of her collegues living in the Dom. Republic.

He promised to help us out and through contacts he managed to contact the armada informing them of our position and with the agreement that we would check in in Punta Cana Marina (on the eastern tip of DR) and not go ashore.
