Coming into Vlieland Marina there were plenty of space as expected offseason.
Still prices surpriced us. First time I was here (mentioned on this blog before) 2007 this was just a fishingport with no fees at all. Now we had to pay over 60Euros/night and then also by coins for filling up water and showers as well !!
Cruising in this part of Europe (and even worst in the western Mediterranean) has developed into an industry with an all time moneymaking machinery. The development of this marina in 14 years from fishingport with no fees to a monemaking complex can stand as a metophore for the development of the cruisingindustry in the western world . Not only is it expensive but also charmless since all marinas moore or less look the same.
Another challenge making landfall in this marina was the workboat occupying the entrance. Harbourmaster told us to pass and so we did but with very little margin on both sides of Dora Mac. Who would pay for damage in case of failure ? In some pilotbooks Vlieland Marina is described as the most expensive in Holland and should probably be avoided.
Nevertheless the beer was good as allways after a passage. Mercedes goes for classic light lager but I have started to like dark beer.
