Isola San Pietro,an island outside the southwest coast of Sardinia is a perfect stopover before crossing the Balearic Sea over to the Balearics.
It´s main settlement,Carloforte, is a likeable village with all supplies needed, and in Marina Sifredi were spareparts waiting.
The population of Carloforte is of Genovese origin and some centuries ago they were all kidnapped by Tunisian pirates.
Sardinia had to pay ransom to have them back on the island, and still today we were told their accent is genovese.
Carloforte was long time the center of tuna fishing but the blue finned tuna has been overfished, almost to extinction, and today (as many places elsewhere) the economy is more depending of tourism.
The tuna is still important though with three days of festivities in the end of May for it´s celebration.
Along the seaside runs a beautiful boulevard and with narrow streets and colourful houses this is a charmy city.
