Puerto Bahia de Samana
Heading to final port, Puerto Bahia de Samana Marina, was a one hour ride on flat waters.
Once in the marina you moore stern to the dock and bowlines to pillars. Easy in calm winds but demanding if you have strong winds on the beam.
The marina itself is a gem. Much smaller and personal than Cap Cana, many of the berths are used by crusiers , and all amenities of the marina is for cruisers as well ( 2 swimming pooles, beach, gym, laundry etc).
We handed our despacho to the armada, did a check in with Gavi at the marina office and started our schedule for conserving Dora Mac.
Our neighbours, Nicole and James from the US, will be helping us to look after Dora Mac while we are gone.
Nicole came for a drink onboard (alone since her husband was on a delivery job delivering a sailboat to the US eastcoast) and we learned they had been in the country for months, Nicole working as a teacher and James as a delivery captain. They preferred the Dominican Republic way over Puerto Rico, so it seems as we made the right choice not going to Puerto Rico which was our preliminary plan.
Now we have 5 days to get Dora Mac ready for storage in a wet berth before our departure back to Europe. We will be back in February for another session onboard.
Let´s see what problems we have to solve then
