Not without problems

Allthough an intensive but lovely week together with Sanna and Gabriel it was not without boat problems. As is almost standard on the maiden tour of the season different problems surfaced. This time it was the domestic watersystem delivering hard work.
On the crossing from Gran Canaria to Tenerife the fresh water pump started running intermittently and the leak was traced to the hot water tank and the heater element (that was replaced just months earlier). With an advanced domestic watersystem as Dora Mac where also the toilets are running on freshwater a leak is handicapping. The freshwaterpump needs to be shut down and all pressure released. Then you are without water also meaning no toilets. Subsequently I had to deal with it once anchored in Tenerife which meant freeing the whole hot water tank and take the hot water element out. The o-ring/gasket sealing the heater element was deranged in an odd way creating the leak. Surely the gasket of a heater element must be fabricated to stand heat ?
Never the less it was replaced and heat resistant sealant added. One week later the fresh water pump started again. This time piping aft of Mercedes garderobe (for fresh water on deck) was leaking.Looking closer it was a crack in the material and a small hole in the crack that must have developed spontaineously. The whole piece was cut out and replaced by new material.
For redundancy I would have preferred a less complicated watersystem with 1 mechanical footpump as spare for freshwater,as well as handpumped toilets with seawater, and a foot pump for seawater. Almost all piping material has been replaced on Dora Mac but also new piping material leak...
