Just incidentally we met Robert Phillips , a Canadian singlehander and old friend of Mercedes from her circumnavigation who is hibernating the winter in Hammamet. He recommended us to visit Sidi Bou Said located some 20km north of Tunis.
Sidi Bou Said is famous for it´s beautiful white and blue buildings, many cafeterias and markets.
August Mackes,Paul Klee and Louis Moilliet were the ones though who really put it on the map during their journey to Sidi Bou Said 1914.
They spent years there painting and from their legacy the famous artschool Ecole de Tunis developed visited by many world renowned painters. The motives are typically from daily life in Sidi Bou Said.
We were driven there by a driver arranged by the capitainerie in Yasmine Marina and he also took us to the old ruins of Carthago.
