Coming back to Trapani Mooring we rented a car and drove to the historical city of Agrigento where we spent the night.
Just south of the city towards the sea lies the Valley of Temples which is the largest archeological site in Europe. With temples from ancient Greece and later the Romans loads of historical sites are spread over a large area now arranged as a beautiful park to walk in.
Starting in one end there´s a 5km walk through the garden and especially the Concordia temple is very impressive. Already now in February flowers and almond trees are blooming and the blackbird singing (this is not until May in my homecountry-Sweden) while you are straying between impressive archeological sites.
In front of the Concordia temple lies Ikaros. Mercedes taught me the myth of Ikaros which is a metaphor on being young with hubris.
Ikaros was the son of Daidalos who was an inventor and both were held prisoners in the labyrinth of king Minos of Crete.
To escape Daidalos built wings glued to the body with wax. Ikaros loved the flying and allthough warned by his father he flew to close to the sun,the wax melted, and Ikaros crashed in the sea.
I recognise the youth and hubris myself, obviously a human characteristic that has been with some of us for eternety
