With steep mountains and glaciers ending upfront the north Atlantic ocean, Lofoten is an ideal area for Randonee skiing.
With the hospital close by in the valley walking on skiis to some of the tops and skiing down is spectacular.
As I understand from my younger and Randonee devoted collegues, Lofoten is one of the better places for this growing sport.
Few places on earth can offer this type of high class skiing on untouched grounds just in front of the ocean.
You will find it in some places in British Columbia as well, and anyone reading this having a spareminute, then google on Lyngen Alps just a bit north of Lofoten close to Tromsö(to see some good pictures). Allthough not better than Lofoten, Lyngen Alps have become popular for Randonee skiiers from all over Europe.
Having a boat with equipment for this kind of skiing is an ideal way of doing it. Perhaps something for Dora Mac.......
