Now departing for the Atlantic we changed subscription to "Mobile Priority" which works out in the ocean. The cost is 289Eu/month including 50GB of surf. You can choose to pay 2,3Eu for all extra GB on top of 50GB and to opt for that is recommended if you don´t want to loose internet suddenly at sea. Priority data really worked well. It´s faster than roaming data and if you have a modern Iphone (android as well perhaps) you can make tel calls over Starlink with good quality. Having some problems with a leaking autopilot pumpmotor we used Starlink for direct communication through messenger with text and pictures.

Mercedes also used Starlink for work with good speed and never did we have any dropout. The Starlink app will constantly tell you how much data you are using and the internet speed. All in all remarkably well working internet at sea with all that it means. It´s not cheap but in comparison to Iridium,Inmarsat,Thuraya etc the pricing is much more modest,and the speed and quality better.

We have IridiumGO as a back up and subscribing to IridiumGO Basic which means 5mins online which is enough for downloading some weather, and make some phonecalls. We used the IridiyumGO twice a day for GPS tracking which also worked well. Included with that is also AIS with targets visible up to 300Nm. It helps when you are on watch (especially at nighttime) to know how the traffic looks in your surrounding and what to expect the coming hours.

An other aspect is of course if you really want internet onboard ? The risk is  that you focus your attention on cyberspace instead of reality. That you watch Netflix instead of dolphins swimming through phosphorescence,but that´s another discussion.
