Through the Finnish immigration at Sveaborg in Helsinki we had to clear out of the European Union before heading for Russia. We departed from Helsinki early morning again on a flat sea with very favourable circumstances. Reaching midnight we were called up by the Finnish coastguard who advised us on the route to cross the Russian border (they had full control of our previous clearing out procedure from Helsinki). Just before crossing the border we called up the Russian coastguard on VHF ch 16 and once they had checked our position all they did was to wish us good luck.Coming in to Russian waters the sea was dead calm with scarse traffic and the moon illuminating the surface of the sea like a mirror.
To stay away from heavy shipping we stayed just south of the border of the traffic lanes also when entering fairway 1 into the border control at Kronstadt. We arrived Kronstadt as estimated at 11.00 and our agent Vladimir Ivankiv was waiting for us at the border control station.
