This spring I was contacted by David King , a former navy captain and owner of M/V Duckin A, a Diesel Duck 462 and hull number 1.
Duckin A has homeport on Vancouver Island and is now for sale.
Riko and Evelin Normets are Estonians and are looking for a Diesel Duck for world cruising. Having their permanent residence in Kärdla (where Dora Mac hibernated this winter) Dora Mac was an obvious choice to visit for further knowledge of these boats. As presumtive buyers of Duckin A, David King knew of Dora Mac being in Estonia (through Randal) and contact details were exchanged .Riko was onboard Dora Mac while on the hard this winter and they both visited the Canadian owned M/V Moken in the Phillipines (but never cruised). Now Riko and Evelin joined Dora Mac for a couple of days cruising.
Riko is a professor of Marine Geophysics and Evelin an interior design architect. They spent some years working on Hawai but Riko is doing polarresearch on Svalbard since 11 years and Evelin is freelancing. Now they are aiming for a circumnavigation and Diesel Duck is their first choice of boat.
We headed north still in beautiful weather and anchored in the bay of Brennsundvika 25Nm north of Bodö. All Lofoten islands were seen 40Nm further northwest over Vestfiorden and now watching the sunset the sun dips below the horizon.
Allthough with some strong fallwinds gusting 30kts from the 800m high Brenntind this was a great anchorage anchoring at 9mtrs in sand with good holding. To discuss climate change and it´s obvious effects on Svalbard and the northpole was of great joy with an expert on the field. I took my chance to show pictures from sailing S/Y Nemrod 1985,87 to Svalbard and comparing Riko´s up to date knowledge 30 years later certainly gave cause for concern.
Where is humanity and planet earth heading ......?
