We spent some days in Cartagena preparing Dora Mac for hibernation during high season. As mentioned before on this blog, during July and August the Mediterranean should be avoided. Already several heatwaves have passed through and the future is expected to get worse.
On Dora Mac we are lucky to have the aircon which we have used frequently especially to keep the aft cabin fresh. We also managed to visit the Roman Amfitheatre which was dug out by archeologists during decades berried under city buildings.
One day someone was knocking on Dora Mac shouting "Mercedes"
It showed to be Christian Bernier, a French sailor and friend of Mercedes since long time back. Christian has spent his life on the oceans and is now the professional skipper on a beautiful Dutch 70ft classic sailboat. He spent the last month in Cartagena waiting for new orders.
Dora Mac was left in a safe corner of the marina under surveillance of Christian, one of the marineros who worked here already 8 years ago.
We will be back early September and keep on heading west
