We rented a car in Spinalonga Beach and first target was the Palace of Knossos.
This worldfamous archeological site was the centre of the Minoan culture around 2.000 to 1.500 B.C.
The mythology around king Minos, the labyrinth and the minotaur is famous all over the world but the Minoan culture also had strong impact on the whole eastern Mediterranean being a centre of trade with it´s pottery found all over the Aegean and as far east as Egypt.
Sir Artur Evans laid his hands on Knossos early 20th century and obviously had free hands. Thats why a lot of the palace has been restored and also partly painted in line with Evans own theories about it´s original look.
The minoan female fashion was peculiar.
