After a couple of days in Positano ,where the main joy was to watch the beautiful town from our anchorage and do daily swims to the nearby beach (wetsuit),we weighed anchor bound for Amalfi further east along the Amalfi coastline.
The day before I sent an e-mail to Marina Coppola asking for price and availability. As allways I describe Dora Mac including all essential details. We got a prompt answer that place was available to a price of 120Eu/night. After sunset just before darkness we approached Amalfi and a ribboat came out from Marina Coppola. The harbourmaster was shaking his head saying "I thought it was a sailboat 47,but this is a motorboat and bigger. You have to pay 180Eu/night. I´m honest and tell you this now so you can go to other place if you wish"
I told him it said motorboat with all dimensions in the mail and that we had no other choice of anchorage now with darkness approaching. Without really agreeing we made a Mediterranean mooring and I then asked the harbourmaster to view the mail but he resisted "we speak in the morning".
Confronting him with the mail in the morning he answered "I´m Italian I don´t speak very good English" and when I told him we will only pay 120Eu as agreed he screamed to me to leave the marina. I refused and told him I will speak with the coastguard. "It doesn´t matter we are private marina" was his answer.
At the coastguardoffice they were very helpful and told me I should not leave the marina and if further problems contact them again.
Back in the marina the harbourmaster didn´t want to speak with us anymore and Mercedes found several similar cases writing about their experiences in Marina Coppola on Navily. We departed in the afternoon and when we tried to pay the harbourmaster the agreed amount he now refused .
Mercedes wrote about our experiences on Navily as well and late evening there was a telephonecall from an Italian number. When picking the phone it was the harbourmaster who was furious on our critics in Navily. He was shouting bad words and I had to hang the phone. He kept on calling until I finally blocked his number.
This marina is certainly not recommended,at least not if you don´t want to go along with this kind of ripoffs and blackmail.
We came to Italy/Sardina in October and this is the first time we have bad experiences. As usual it has NOTHING to do with nationality but as allways all over the world it is individuals and they exist everywhere.
