Arriving in darkness and some issues with broken mooringlines from the marina we needed a deep sleep before walking out in the village of La Maddalena.
Allthough out of touristseason many of the cafeterias are busy in the mornings and the village is charmy and alive. We also needed to arrange for cruising and diving permit in the naturereserve of La Maddalena archipelago which was a sttraightforward and easy procedure.
Wherever you walk you will be reminded of Garibaldi who I learned is considered to be Italys number one hero and the main figure behind the unification of Italy. He loved this part of Sardinia and was the owner of Caprera island (neighbour to La Maddalena) where he had his farm cultivating the land and bringing up his family.
Being a general, republican and nationalist (popular narratives of his time) he was admired by many politicians and intellectuals of his time.Among others Abraham Lincoln, Victor Hugo, Alexander Dumas and Friedrich Engels.
Bianca probably had no idea of his importance visiting his knee.
