We have been in Malumu Bay(Beqa) for 4 days now
enjoying the very protected bay, trying to follow the news around the Tsunami of
Tonga/Samoa,and a lost Swedish sailingyacht under way from Fr Polynesia to
Palmerston.Nothing new is heard so far on the SSB-net.
Yesterday I went diving with a local divemaster
from Lalati Village(working on the resort). The dive was on the reef surrounding
Beqa lagoon and we saw loads of sharks, mainly Silver tip sharks, but most
impressive the huge Bullsharks.
In the Lalati village we visited the chief and made
Sevu Sevu with him(a very important gesture/tradition where the captain will
offer Kawa root to the chief as a gift,to be accepted and welcommed by the
local Fiji community). In the afternoon a fisherman came and sold us 3
lobsters, which was a great welcome to interfere in Taritas regular
menu.
Today we are leaving for Mamanuca Islands and
Musket Cove on the island of Malolo LaiLai,in the western part of
Fiji.
