After two days of gale winds from the north we got a two day weatherwindow with enough time to cross the Tyrrhenian sea.
According to weathersources seastate was acceptable and improving and with an estimated passage of 28 hours we still had a nights margin to the next gale expected from northwest.
Our goal was the island of Ponza and Ponza harbour.
Leaving Sardinia heading east we came out to uncomfortable seas on the beam and launched the paravanes. Circumstances improved with the time and with a beautiful moon as company during the night the passage became a pleasure.
We made landfall in Ponza harbour around 16.00 and was directed by the harbourmaster to moore alongside at the tip of the northern pier (which seemed to be the only available place with local fishingboats occupying the rest of the harbour).
Also the coast guard approached us wanting to see ships documents as well as passports.
In the evening we walked through the charmy village of Ponza with an active fishingcommunity and at this time of the year a very genuine atmosphere with only local people around.
Allthough still in low season we found a local restaurant and bar full of people where we had a beer.
After a tedious and demanding springrefit, this passage was just what we needed.
