Passage between continents

The passage from Lagos to Gibraltar went smooth.
We didn`t head straight onto Tarifa instead keeping a more northerly course into the Bay of Cadiz to avoid some of the worst swell from the North Atlantic.
Buddysailing on our starboard side was an Amel 54 sailing under Swedish flag. Over VHF we learned to know that the boat was just purchased and this was their first seatrial also heading for Gibraltar. As usual we lost contact sailing into the night but in the morning we converged into the strait of Gibraltar.
With a permanent eastsetting current of two knots in the strait (the North Atlantic filling up the Med due to evaporation) and the tide with us we had a speed over ground over 10kts at times.
This is the fourth time in my life passing the strait of Gibraltar and I`m allways impressed by the sight of two continents viewed from the sea.
With Africa on our starboard side and Europe on port side we made landfall in Alcaidesa at 22.00.
The illuminated cliff of Gibraltar is also very impressive especially in darkness.
