Having propellershaft problems on a 500Nm passage from Crete to Malta your first wish is to manage making landfall without engine shutdown. Having managed that the next step is serious repairs which have to be performed on site, in this case in Malta.
After research the one standing out as being able to manage all various reasons for shaft vibrations was Manoel Island Yacht Yard (MIYY).
With heritage from Royal Navy they seem to have managed to keep knowhow, experience and skilled labour.
On the other hand,as many yards in the Med today, the whole quayside opposite of Manoel Island is home to a large mega yacht fleet and of course there´s where the big money is. Subsequently MIYY have many megayachts as customers with prices accordingly.
Except for a failed (and non ordered) autopilot pumpmotor installation their work was fast, professional and well done. Upon writing this we have had a tough passage to Tunisia and all working well. There are no signs of vibrations on shaft (neither in rough seas) and shaftseals are dry.
The failed autopilot work was reimbursed and I have no problem to recommend MIYY for all kinds of jobs that needs to be done by a very professional yacht yard in this part of the Med. One just have to be aware of prices higher than average also in this rather expensive part of the Med
