After passing the Norwegian border arrival at Dora Mac was late afternoon after 26hrs of non-stop driving. On the border in the mountains there´s already full winter but out in Lofoten there´s till only snow on the tops of the mountains.
After a day of preparation of Dora Mac and Felix discussing with different whaleexperts we headed to sea with Tromsö as a primary goal. Once reaching open sea the seaway was heavy and when turning east having steep waves with short periods on our beam rolling was up to +-40deegr. Except for creating a mess onboard it was just to uncomfortable and we decided to return to port.
The weathersituation is all but stable for the moment with gales coming and going, and as far as we understand the herring is still far offshore. Looking at the fishingfleet on AIS they are where the herring is accompanied by all large predators.
There´s a big risk for a flop of this years first tour to the whales.
