After the weekend we drove to the local FedEx office in Providence to get our Raymarine MFD out.

Although online tracking showed the package was in place three different people were looking for half an hour before they found it.

Once back on Dora Mac two days were spent to install the replacement. After the first attempt the chart plotter was working on the E-120 master display but not on the E-80 slave screen on fly bridge. On the other hand radar and fish finder were only working on the E-80.

Max Marine in Florida who sold the screen have very good customer support where you immediately reach a human who has knowledge and will assist you.

It was obvious that the E-120 master screen was not communicating over sea talk to the shared Raymarine high speed sea talk switch. They suggested to try a replacement ethernet cable between the E-120 and the switch. Redoing the installation with a new ethernet cable it’s still not working. The plan now is to order a new Raymarine ethernet cable and high speed sea talk switch. That means we have to go through Bahamas with chart plotter on the master screen and radar/fishfinder on fly bridge.

Why not just replace the E-120 with new and modern equipment ?

That sounds easy but in reality means replacing the whole navigation infrastructure with new gauges for depth sounder, new radar, new gps,run new cables for the whole network and rebuild the nav station in the pilot house.

That is not a job while under way through the Caribbean to be on the US east coast before hurricane season starts…….
