We set off at first light for St Martin with the option to head into Beaufort, North Carolina depending where we were on the next weather update.  Two boats we have met Trumpeter and B Emz, headed out at a similar time. On the forecast there is a front going through in a couple of days and as I said in last post we may struggle to stay ahead of it - hence the opt out plan.
There was a mass exodus as everyone took the opportunity to get south, we motored initially and then sailed while almost every other boat flew past us, some motor sailing and some just motoring!

So soon we were near the back of the pack but quite happy with our progress, we had a little visitor for a short while, we are always happy when a little bird finds a perch to recuperate and get some strength back before it continues on its journey.

Near Hatteras we downloaded the latest forecast, the front was now bigger and further south and most likely we would catch the stronger winds possible 40-45 knots so we decided to turn south and go to Beaufort, we had a good sail along the outer banks - still everyone was overtaking us, all trying to get in in daylight! We arrived just after dark, anchored near the coastguard station and relaxed. Not quite where we hoped to be but happy with the decision we made not to carry on.
