We spent 12 days anchored at various spots around Georgetown and Stocking island, we saw Jo and Carl a few times before they left with their visitors. We went ashore on Stocking island a few times, of course I had to feed the rays near the chat and chill bar / restaurant 😍 there is a conch bar nearby and they leave the bits they dont use for human consumption on a table for people to feed to the rays, if the bar's open there is a good gathering of then, when it's closed there are usually a few around always hopeful for an easy meal . ![]() ![]() We also went for a meet and greet sundowners on a different beach and met a few people, we went to a boat concert, Pauline on electric Mermaid who we first met in West Palm beach at Christmas announced she would be performing on her boat and for anyone who wanted to to come and tie their dinghy to her boat and listen to her. So we took drinks and headed off, about 50 dinghies were there at one point, hanging off her little 28ft boat, people came and went so who we were next to changed a few times, everybody had great fun and a great time, not only does Pauline have a lovely voice, she is a good entertainer too. ![]() ![]() ![]() My nephew Freddie was flying into Georgetown for a 10 day visit on Friday the 21st and so we moved the boat over to the Georgetown side of the anchorage early in anticipation for his arrival - unfortunately he’s arriving on a day when there are strong easterly winds and so we will have a long fetch and it will be wet getting to and from the shore to the boat. After we moved I noticed a boat on AIS we had met in 2012 was anchored near by - we thought they, Craig and Karene might have sold Il Sogno, we have been bad friends and not communicated with them since they were in the Pacific pre Covid. Anyway we had to go over and see if it was them and sure enough it was, fantastic to see them and soon we were onboard catching up, they completed their circumnavigation last year and had just arrived in the Bahamas from the States, they had family visiting the next day so we invited them over for sundowners. It;s so good to hear peoples enthusiasm for where they have sailed and made us look at each other and wonder if we should be heading down to Panama, something we always wanted to do but Covid changed our plans and our appetite for going had wained rather, so after talking with Craig and Karine and hearing their adventure it's a maybe again! The following day we went ashore to get one of our propane tanks filled and see if the shops had been restocked from the delivery boat - Sadly not but I got a few bits anyway, there are so few shops in the Bahamas I really needed to get some more meat and Vegetables for Freddies visit so we had to go ashore again the day he was arriving - the shop was restocking but hadn’t got everything out so it was only a semi successful shop - I will have to be creative, as predicted the wind was up, and we had a pretty wet ride back to the boat - the nearest we can get is about half a mile from the shore as it's too shallow for us so it's a long dinghy ride into 20+ knots of wind! Steve had to make the trip again in the dark to collect Freddie, i had arranged for a taxi to collect him from the airport, his flight was delayed and Steve wanted to head in before it was totally dark so he had a long wait ashore before meeting Freddie and then both arriving back soaking wet from sea and spray, not the best start to his holiday! Luckily I had warned Freddie to take some Seasickness tablets in Nassau so he was fine with the bouncy rocky boat for his first night. First thing the following day we moved back to the sheltered water in the lea of Stocking island. This enabled us to go ashore on Stocking island for a walk, shell collection and bit of a beach clean - I took a small bin bag and filled it easily with small bits of plastic and rope, I could have filled a few dozen big bags if there was someway to easily dispose of them afterwards! We also Took Freddie to see the rays 😍. ![]() ![]() |
